BRANDY

The term brandy is derived from the Dutch word ‘brandewijn’ meaning ‘burned Wine’. Brandy is a distilled spirit made from ferment grape juice. Although, other fruits can also be used to make brandy, these are classified as flavored brandies. Brandy can be enjoyed straight or on the rocks, but it is better known as a great cocktail base. 

COGNAC

Cognac is the high-end variant of brandy. It can be produced only in the Cognac region of France and 90% of the spirit must be made from three grape varieties, Ugni Blan, Folle Blanche and Colombard Grapes. Because the wine produced from these grapes have high acidity and low alcohol levels, this gives cognac its distinctive taste. Some of the best Cognacs in the world include Hennessy cognac, Godet VS, and the Martell Cognac.

ARMAGNAC

Similar to Cognac’s exclusive production in the Cognac region, Armagnac is confined to production in the Armagnac region of France. Armagnac, with its guidelines of grapes also have only particular wood varieties for their cask. The wood gives Armagnac its character.

FRUIT BRANDY

This type of brandy is produced typically from the mash, juice or residue of edible fruits, excluding grapes. Because that is the prominent distinction between Fruit Brandy and the others.
