WHITE WINE

Made from crushing white grapes and pressing the skins to extract all the juices, White wine is made by fermenting the juice (not the skin) in oak barrels or stainless-steel tanks. Once fermented, the white wine is also stored in wither oak barrels or stainless-steel tanks. Some of the best-known varietals of white wine include Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling.

CHARDONNAY

One of the most widely planted grape varieties in the world – the Chardonnay produces different styles of wines depending on the climate. In cooler climates, the grape produces a light to medium bodied wine that are highly acidic coupled with green apple and citrus aromas. In warmer climates, the grapes produce a medium to full bodied wine that is medium acidic with peach and tropical fruit flavours. Chardonnay can also be blended with Pinot Noir in making Champagne.

SAUVIGNON BLANC

Found in New Zealand and France, the Sauvignon Blanc produces a medium bodied, highly acidic wine with aromas of green apple, citrus (lemon, grapefruit) and herbal. To retain the authentic aroma, the Sauvignon Blanc is not fermented in oak, rather in stainless steel tanks. Some of our best-selling Sauvignon Blanc wines are Matua Valley Sauvignon Blanc, Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc, and Indaba Sauvignon Blanc

PINOT GRIGIO

Predominantly associated as an Italian grape but grown elsewhere too, the Pinot Grigio creates a dry wine, which is light bodied with high acidity and light body. The fruity flavours of the grape are retained by fermenting and maturing in stainless steel tanks rather than oak. The Barefoot Pinot Grigio and Danzante Pinot Grigio are some of the best-selling Pinot Grigio wines

RIESLING

The Riesling grape produces light to medium bodied wines that have a high acidity but can range from dry to sweet. The acidity keeps the sweetness in check. The Riesling wine can have wide range of aromas including floral and green apple notes to stone fruits to citrus notes. The wine is not matured in oak but often matured in stainless steel tanks. Germany produces dry to sweet style of Riesling wines whereas France (Alsace) and Australia produce dry styles of Riesling wine.  The Wolf Blass Eaglehawk Reisling is a preferred Riesling.
